Vaccination
Protocol

At Clear Creek Animal Hospital, we recommend starting vaccinations for
puppies and kittens at 6-8 weeks of age.
Kittens
- At their first visit, kittens will get a full examination, their 1st FVRCP
vaccination, a stool sample check for intestinal parasites,
deworming if necessary, and get started on flea and heartworm
preventative. This is also a good time to test all kittens for Feline
Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. If the kitten will be
outside, or will be exposed to an FIV or FeLV positive cat, they will
receive their 1st FIV vaccination.
- They will come back in 3-4 weeks for a booster examination, 2nd
FVRCP vaccination, 1st FeLV vaccination and another stool
sample check if the first one was positive. Outside or exposed cats
will receive their 2nd FIV vaccination.
- They will come back in 3-4 weeks for a booster examination, 3rd
FVRCP vaccination, 2nd FeLV vaccination and their 1st Rabies
vaccination. Outside or exposed cats will receive their 3rd FIV
vaccination. Occasionally, the Rabies vaccination will be given at a
separate appointment to reduce the chances of a vaccine reaction.
- At 6 months of age they can be spayed or neutered and declawed.
- All felines, will receive an examination, a Rabies vaccination, and a
FVRCP booster annually. Outside or exposed cats will receive a
booster of the FIV and FeLV vaccinations.
- For felines over the age of 12, we recommend an annual
examination and blood work instead of vaccinations.

Puppies
- At their 1st visit, puppies will get a full examination, their 1st DHPP
vaccination, a stool sample check for intestinal parasites,
deworming if necessary, and get started on flea and heartworm
preventative.
- They will the come back in 3-4 weeks for a booster examination,
their 2nd DHPP vaccination, and check another stool sample if the
first was positive. At this time they may also receive a Lepto
vaccination. If the puppy will be boarded or groomed, they will
receive a Bordatella vaccination.
- They will come back in 3-4 weeks for their 3rd DHPP vaccination
and their 1st Rabies Vaccination. At this time they may receive a
Lepto vaccination if it was not given at the last visit. Occasionally,
the Rabies vaccine will be given at a separate appointment to
reduce the chances of a vaccine reaction.
- After their 3rd DHPP vaccination, we recommend getting a booster
examination and a Parvo Virus vaccination every 3 months until they
are 1 year old.
- At 6 months of age they can be spayed or neutered.
- All canines will receive an examination, a 2nd Rabies vaccination,
and a DHPP vaccination booster one year after their 1st Rabies
and 3rd DHPP vaccinations were given, regardless of their age. At
this time they will also be old enough for a heartworm test and
another stool sample check. A Bordatella vaccination will be given
only if the animal boards or goes to the groomer frequently.
- After their 2nd Rabies vaccination, animals with low exposure may
choose to vaccinate against Rabies every 3 years. However, we
still recommend an annual examination along with the DHPP
booster, an annual heartworm test and stool sample check. A
Bordatella vaccination should be given annually only if the dog
boards or goes to the groomer frequently.
- For canines over the age of 7-10 we recommend an annual
examination and blood work instead of vaccinations.
